So Festivids is live! And I was going to wait and do all the recs at once, but THERE IS A TANGLED VID, and there are people who need to know this, so:

Everything Comes and Goes

Seriously!

Rec Time!

[livejournal.com profile] yappichick has written a laugh out loud list of fic recs for Tangled: But, really, it was more like out of the fire, get hit in the head with a frying pan.

(Some familiar faces!)

Unrelated: My new dream is to start a curling team called Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock. I would need to make friends with a singer, a hair-stylist and a herpetologist. (I would be paper.) We would be bound together by the commonality of geekery (and curling!).

Man, I was not expecting so enthusiastic a response! It did make the afternoon pass by a lot more quickly, though, and I think I escaped without picking up any (huge) plot bunnies, so...we're good!

[livejournal.com profile] shadadukal asked for Nikola

[livejournal.com profile] jemster asked for Kate/Declan

[livejournal.com profile] peanutbutterer asked for Ryan and Esposito

[livejournal.com profile] laura_josephsen asked for The Doctor and River Song (Spoilers!)

[livejournal.com profile] yappichick asked for Rapunzel/Eugene

[livejournal.com profile] lanna_kitty asked for Helen Magnus

[livejournal.com profile] lferion asked for James

[livejournal.com profile] oparu asked for James/Declan

And [livejournal.com profile] m_nivalis made the best f-list debut EVER with none other than The Yellow Slime Mold

I think my favourite one is In space, no one can hear you eating their shoes.

I guess we'll find out if brevity really is the soul of wit...

1) Give me a fandom (Sanctuary is probably your best bet, but I'm willing to throw it completely open) plus character/pairing, and FIVE one-word prompts
2) I'll see if I can write you five one-sentence ficlets based on them

At least I managed to hold off almost fifteen minutes.

I have voted! For the first time in my life, I might have voted for the actual government, and not just my right to complain about it.

I have written three stories for Remix Madness!

(My link for Remix Madness is here.)

I have...listened to the Tangled sound track.

It's still early!

I really love how much purple there is in this movie. And also the line Flynn says when he's fighting Maximus. ;)

Snag, credit, don't hotlink, as usual.

AN: I’m still not sure how this happened, let alone how it became all about FLYNN. But here we are. You all know who is to blame!

Spoilers: For the movie, I guess. And possibly The Little Mermaid?

Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit, etc.

Rating: Kid Friendly

Summary: It takes two to tangle.

(I apologize for the title. If you can think of a better PLEASE TELL ME, because just looking at it causes me pain.)

I had my doubts about this movie. And then I decided to just see what happened. And I'm really glad I did, because this might be my favourite Disney movie since Mulan, and definitely one of the best movies of the year. So in place of a review, I have ten reasons why Tangled is a great movie to love.

1. Rapunzel is kind of kick ass. In adorable ways. Which will require a spoiler cut to explain fully ).

And that's without even mentioning the part about the frying pan! I'll admit, I was worried about this girl and her story, but it was very, very much her story, and she was a player in it, and I love her.

2. Flynn is voiced by Zachary Levi. Shallow, I know, but REALLY. Also, there are a couple of scenes that are pure Levi, and they are HILARIOUS.

3. Mother Gothel is an amazing villain. As far as I could detemine, she's not magical at all, she just knows how to exploit people, and MAN, does this woman exploit people! Her manipulation of Rapunzel deserves several gold stars for expert villainry. Not only is the woman smart enough to lie by telling the truth, she's also (relatively) nice to Rapunzel for her entire life. She's a clever villain, and Disney often so lacking that (hence the term "Disney Villain"). Psychological Scarring FTW!

4.

Seriously, you guys. And the scene was stunning too.

5. Actually, the "I See The Light" scene gets its own entry. BECAUSE IT WAS AWESOME. Just pretty and heartwarming and for about five seconds I thought the eels were going to tip them over and then I realized I was thinking of another movie. ;)

6. Maximus and Pascal. I realize that non-talking animal friend is a Disney staple, but these two were AWESOME. Maximus has a character arc and everything, and Pascal is just HILARIOUS. Maximus actually has two of my favourite moments of the whole picture!

7. The Back-up Thug Chorus is actually pretty funny. And bizarre, of course, but genuinuely amusing.

8. There was a moment in the movie when I thought to myself "Okay, happy ending! WHENEVER YOU'RE READY!" because a Disney movie sort of hoodwinked me into thinking that it might end with something OTHER than happily ever after.

9. Spoiler for the Denouement )

10. I had exactly one reservation with the climax of the movie, and I will need another cut to tell you about it ). I think the best part is that I'm actually okay with how it turned out, because it's still her story and she still does most of the saving and he needs something to redeem him beyond "not leaving" and preferring spoilers! ).

So there you have it. Disney made me like a movie in spite of myself. And yeah, there were underlying messages I'm not sure how I feel about, but generally speaking? 10/10.

(And I didn't even talk about the score and how it managed to be reminiscent without being a complete rip-off, or the animation which was just lovely, or the part where the plot actually sort of made sense!)

How is it, by the way, that the tagline for this movie is NOT "It takes two to tangle"? I swear, the fic is writing ITSELF.

(Though I will allow that "taking adventure to new lengths" is funny.)

Tangled

Okay, so I was annoyed with Disney about a lot of things wrt "Tangled". But I'm also friends with [livejournal.com profile] sache8, and I don't know if you know this about her, but when she is excited about something, it is REALLY HARD to not get excited yourself. Especially when you know what she looks like and can picture what her face will look like next year at Comic Con during the Chuck panel when Zach Levi notices what her costume is. ;)

I'm going to go out on a limb and declare this my new favourite trailer of all time. It's funny, but it's also witty. And hilarious. And other words that mean "I laughed so hard I cried, and then my spleen burst".

Watch it again, and this time read the fine print.

I am SO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE!
