I love you all to pieces, but WOULD YOU PLEASE FINISH YOUR STUFF?

Seriously.

Regards,
Me

Also, a reminder that I am always open to fic recs for:

1. Catelyn/Ned, their marriage before everything went to shit (or an AU, because basically AUs are my favourite part of GoT)
2. Elinor/Fergus, who grew up together and got married and then OH CRAP, FERGUS HAS TO BE KING, and Elinor is all "Well, damn if this is falling apart on MY watch!" etc.
3. I don't think there's any Margaret/John on the internet that I haven't read, but JUST IN CASE THERE IS, maybe you should tell me about it.
4. Basically any marriage of convenience that ends well (except not Supernatural, Sherlock, McShep or, and I can't believe I have to say this, Transformers), though I do prefer historical/fantasy.

Addendum: Also, I am after politics, FEELINGS, kissing, kissing, and mutual respect that grows slowly through a series of misunderstandings into OH GOD THEY CANNOT KEEP THEIR HANDS TO THEMSELVES. As you do.

This is so far up my alley that it found the muggers lurking there and beat them up and left them webbed to the wall for the cops to pick up later with a note signed “Your friendly neighborhood Jazz Cover”

...

That metaphor got away from me a little.

This is my everything.

(I don't often miss high school, but high school was the most musical time of my whole life, and GOOD LORDE, I miss that.)

I don't watch Game of Thrones anymore. For reasons we've discussed. But I can't deny that I'm kind enjoying this season's marketing campaign, particularly every reference to the promised "wild wedding".

(aside: The Red Wedding, or rather, my reading about it on wiki, was the exact moment when I threw my hands in the air, and gave up. And not even for that reason. Or that one. OR EVEN THAT ONE. But the one where Arya misses her dog by half a second in the woods. I'M VERY BITTER ABOUT THAT.)

Anyway, the trailers always make me think that I want to watch it, and I have to remind myself that I don't, and this trailer does an excellent job:

"Mawwidge is what bwings us togever, today."

(Everything is better with The Princess Bride, obviously.)

Girls (Run the World)

Seriously, I might actually watch that show.

(OMG, who ARE all those people?)

(Don't answer that.)

SO, [livejournal.com profile] oparu WROTE A STORY!

Okay, let me back up.

Once upon a time, there was a story called A Song of Ice and Fire, which got made into a TV show called Game of Thrones. And then many people watched it.

Then [livejournal.com profile] oparu said "Hey, you know what this needs? MORE AWESOME LADIES." Because, there are some awesome ladies, but they're kind of smaller parts. So [livejournal.com profile] oparu made it into a matriarchy. AND IT IS AMAZING.

The Stranger's Road

Seriously. I pretty much died reading it. [livejournal.com profile] oparu captures high epic style, makes up a bunch of words I love, and THEN HAS CATELYN WEAR ARMOUR AND BE AWESOME. I love it.

Game of Thrones and I have a complicated relationship, but the one thing we can agree on is HOW AWESOME Ned and Cat Stark are.

By no coincidence, [livejournal.com profile] oparu thinks so too, and she has written an absolutely beautiful fic about them for the Winterverse Trope Challenge.

Her assignment was "Annoying Arrows", but she let me pick the fandom and who got shot. Nevertheless, I did not expect so much stable relationship, hurt/comfort, cuddling for warmth, costume porn (with additional bonus points for weaponry), AWESOMENESS, with Excellent Married People Dialogue thrown in for good measure.

And aside from hitting pretty much every narrative kink I have, the story is beautiful. I haven't read a word of ASoIaF (the only time I've even opened one was when I dropped six on the floor at work), so I have no idea if it's a style-match and frankly, I don't care. There is SO MUCH Ned and Cat in this fic, and it is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.

Without further ado, I recommend you read Pierced. Even if you know nothing about the fandom, it's a beautiful story of two people who are so practically in love you just want to hug them ALL THE TIME. And if you do know things about the fandom, you will see plenty of things you like. :)

I realized that I never actually posted the rec for that Game of Thrones vid I talked about when I explained why I sat down and watched the show over the weekend. So here's the rec. The song is "Thistle And Weeds" which I had never heard, by Mumford and Sons, which I'd only heard of because of the Lion song. Anyway, the first 20 seconds of the vid was enough to make me watch the show. It's really that good. The vid focuses primarily on Dany and her various relationships. It pulls no punches. Literally. But the song encompasses Dany's determination and the path she takes to find her power, which was something I adored in the series itself. I also really, really liked the editing (which I won't spoil for you), and the song is a wonderful kind of understatedly epic that makes me wonder why no one ever pointed me at Mumford and Son's before.

Thistle and Weeds: Fire cannot kill the dragon.

In a COMPLETELY different direction, we have the ADORABLE PONDS from Eleventy!Who, in a vid called "You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate", which pretty much tells you everything you need to know. The song and clip choices complement one another perfectly, and the tone of the vid is spot on with the series itself.

You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate: Oh, Ponds.

++

I should probably have mentioned that all of these are from Vividcon, which I did not attend but looked forward to because I knew there would be great vids afterward. This next vid was the "intro", and it might just be the day I'm having, but I totally cried. FANDOM, you guys! AND VIDDING! *hugs everyone*

Intro Vid 2011: Welcome all

++

This next vid covers a whopping SEVENTEEN YEARS (some of which overlap, but still) of footage. All Stargate, all the time (and it says something about the Ancients that I agree with...I think!).

High Voltage

++

There is not enough "How To Train Your Dragon" out there. Just sayin'.
