I am out of cake related puns...

It's finished. It's yellow and a sort of pukey green...but it looks ok.
Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present THE WII CAKE

The stage was set! Actually, this is about 1/4 of the way through the assembly process (you can see the base), but then I remembered that not all of you were here for my last cake making adventure. Notice how the crappy weather (and the fact that it's night time) makes the room seem different!

The base section. Rest assured that the crater in the top will be completely covered by wii-cakey goodness. Icing cakes is HARD. No wonder professionals use fondant!

This is what it looked like when it was all stuck together, but the sides weren't iced yet. I used chocolate to stick the layers together because a) I was totally going to run out of the buttercream, b) chocolate is what I do and c)it seemed like a good idea at the time!

The stacked cake from the side. No, there isn't really that much icing between the layers! The cake slopes down toward the edges. It cause me a lot of pain. I love my mum's glassware, but if I were making this cake again, I'd invest in some pans that don't have sloping sides.

Detail of the hand controller. I was nervous about the marshmallows, because I thought they might highlight how not white the icing was, but I think it's okay. And yes, I know I am missing the directional control. I could not make a plus sign out of marshmallows and I was running out of space. The colour is food colouring dripped from a tooth pick! Very last minute.

The finished product. I don't have a detail of the front, because they were all shakey (low light=slow shutter=shakey pictures!), but you'll note the writing and the eject button? All done by hand with toothpicks and food colouring. I may never get my fingers clean again!
All in all, I am not as pumped about this one as I was for the last one. Perhaps because this one is for someone else and I am afraid he'll be all "Er...thanks." and then it will be awkward. Also, I don't get to eat it. But still, it will taste good, because it's all good stuff, and it was fun to make. I definitely know where I'll make improvements next time!
