2) I'll see if I can write you five one-sentence ficlets based on them

1. It's only after Gregory Magnus shakes his hand with decidedly more force than really necessary that James realizes that the esteemed doctor believes James to be courting his daughter.

2. "You never said they were projectile!" James sputters, and Helen goes to get the tweezers without pointing out that he never asked.

3. "I swear," he says to the baby in his arms, "You are worse than both your parents combined."

4. It comes to this, of course, this black moment of discovery and realization forever crystallized in his damnably near perfect mind.

5. It's his hair, James admits in quiet moments of personal reflection, his hair and his eyes and his willingness to not say anything and his calm; all these things, and especially the part where he's taken James as is and never once complained.

1. Declan wraps his still shaking fingers around the tea cup his boss has just handed him, and wonders if this is standard procedure for near death experiences or if it's just a special since it's his first day.

2. "You weren't particularly attached to that pillow, were you?" he asks, a bit nervous, but James only smirks and pulls him in again.

3. At the end of the job interview, when Declan hadn't reacted at all to the various outbursts of abnormal activities that were interspersed amongst questions like "How do you deal with a crisis?" and "Describe a time when you worked with a team to solve a problem?", James allows himself some small amount of hope.

4. "You're far too young for insomnia," James says, breath warm across his ear as the clock down the hall chimes midnight and Declan tells himself, once again, that this is not a dream.

5. Declan hates grapefruit, but when he sees the breakfast tray is made up for two, he eats his half with as much sugar as he can get away with and never says a word.

1. For reasons James is not entirely comfortable speculating about, the creature never escapes when Tesla is visiting.

2. There was someone here, it can feel it, someone who was here before James, someone who kept this house and all the creatures in it, and the first time it sees her, it knows her on sight.

3. In space, no one can hear you eating their shoes.

4. "Do you think it mates?" Ashley said, one finger absently tapping on the glass as the creature undulated in time with the rhythm and Declan suppressed a shudder.

5. James sits in the arm chair with a tub of shoe polish in one hand and his newly scuffed shoe in the other, and tries to think on the bright side: if he had a kitten, it would have claws.
