How come when Six kills a baby by snapping its neck after talking sweetly to its mother it's "mercy" and when God kills HER baby it's not? I'm just saying. Caprica Six makes me feel bad and all, but still.
I am actually rather relieved the baby died, because it means that they won't have to kill it later. And yeah, that's a bit harsh, but this show has never exactly been sunshine and roses, so I am okay with it. Because when COLONEL TIGH has Figured It Out, you know it can't be long before everyone else catches up with him. They feel it already, they feel it so hard it fills the frakking room...they are just afraid to say the words and so Tigh has to say it for them.
We've known SINCE THE BEGINNING that Hera was the Shape of Things To Come. Hearing Tigh say it straight up like that just confirms it. The Cylons won the war as soon as Athena got pregnant, only the humans didn't know it and the Cylons didn't know HOW THEY DID IT. Because the war had been going on for way longer than anyone remembered until it became the sort of feud that can ONLY be solved by COMPLETE OBLITERATION (which makes them all into Cavil) or by Interbreeding (which makes them all into Helo...except not as pretty). God on this show is horrible, cruel even. But he gets shit done. I can appreciate that.
There's a choice. Go their separate ways (again) and go head first into destruction, or mix. (which, by the way, is what's gonna save them THIS time the fact that they have survivors around from the LAST time?) And they'll need the Sixes, with their infinite capacity to love and the Eights, with their tenacity and refusal to stop and they'll need the Twos for...genes, really, but this will mostly be a female thing. And EVERYONE will be breeding stock, equally powerless and inferior, and it will REALLY SUCK but in a couple thousand years when everyone is STILL ALIVE, they'll probably still be singing songs about the people who finally made everyone SHUT UP and START TAKING ACTION.
In other news, the recap at TWoP is THIRTY-SIX PAGES LONG so I will not be reading it.
Also, I realize I am about to make excuses for a character I hate, but do you think that if Tory remembered, she'd still want to run away with the Cylons? I get the feeling that Tory's spent a lot of her life seeking approval and now that she's got a Basestar full of worshippers she's all for screwing the species she grew up thinking she was a member of? AND STILL HAS ONLY THOSE MEMORIES?

I think what I want now is for a Children of Man scenario where suddenly humans stop being able to have babies with each other for no good reason and have to go get knocked up by/knock up cylons. Not because it would make any sense (or because I actually think the show would or even should do that) but because I really do, and always have, loved the idea that interbreeding is the way to go. And I love the terrifying future they'd have to face if they just had no choice.
Like, for both sides: co-operation or extinction.
As things stand, though, I'm not sure what the incentive is for the humans to integrate in that way with the cylons. Like yes, over generations it'll happen naturally but...in time for the end of the show?
Oh, also re: Caprica and her various dead babies, I'm still not convinced it was entirely mercy that made her snap that kid's neck. It probably doesn't speak well of me that I found that scene awesome, fascinating, creepy and wonderful on first watch when I had no idea why she was doing it and kind of wondered if it was just...curiosity. But then I'm also not sure that God killed Liam, and if he did, it wasn't made clear in the text that it was to mercifully save him from something else.

Date: 2009-02-26 03:14 am (UTC)The human incentive, I think, is the same as Adama's was to fix the ship. I imagine there will be a lot of AI (and that would be artificial insemination) going on for at least the first few generations.
I have NO IDEA how they are going to end the show. I'm still pulling for "rocks fall, all die".
