You know how sometimes you just plough through an author's backlist? And I am only reading Jenn's recent backlist (i.e. the early books in her current series).

ANYWAY, Barnes continues to be brilliant here, in these books that are basically "Criminal Minds, but the profilers are teens". It's not quite a super power (it could be argued instead that the kids are savants, making the stories straight contemporary), which makes it really fun (Barnes herself is a PhD in neuroscience and psychology, so she's really writing inside her wheelhouse here).

Also, the style is really compelling and the twists are great and I really like the characters.

I'm probably not as invested as I am in the Fixer books, but that's entirely personal preference (politics being my catnip). Barnes just has this way of writing a large group dynamic that's cross-generational AND including a large group of friends AND making the relationships between all the girls be 1. different and 2. not awful.

I thought reading both series at the same time would make the wait easier, but I WAS WRONG.
