Described as Scandal for teens, The Fixer combines politics and girls-who-are-friends, and so I was 100% in.

It has the best written high school I've ever encountered in YA. Also, the pacing is magnificent and the story is very tightly written.

Interestingly, I would say it also has some of the best world-building I've ever come across, particularly because world-building in contemp novels often gets overlooked. Despite the far-out premise, I absolutely believed everything the characters did, because they made so much sense in the world Barnes had made. It was excellent.

I also really enjoyed the tie-off of the plot while extending the series into the next book at the same time. I am SUPER intrigued and can't wait to keep going.

So, would be good for a teenage girl who is binge-watching The West Wing?

SO MUCH, YES.

(And then also: Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series, and her Heist Society books.)
