So this was okay. It dealt with rape culture in ways that didn't make me want to tear my hair out (except for one thing, which is the part where it's not clear if the half-djinn children are the result of a djinn raping their mother OR if the sex was consensual). My main problem with the book was a decided lack of female characters, though when they show up, they are not always spiteful.
This is a trilogy, and so the author has a lot of room to grow the ideas, but all-told, I wasn't super sold on it.
Also, I found it kind of upsetting that the thing the main character is good at (shooting) is what prevents her from using her (magic) power.
But that's just me.
