This movie, you guys.

I don't know what I did in this life or in another to deserve Mad Max: Fury Road, but I am really glad I did it. It was FULL of things I love, including (but not limited to):

1. a moving siege
2. "space ship" ethics (there wasn't really a space ship)
3. ladies
4. people being smart
5. clever writing
6. justice
7. an excellent soundtrack
8. [redacted for spoilers]

Also, there's a Scene You Don't See that was even better than Nat's "Won't be a problem" in Captain America: The Winter Solider.

UGH, it was amazing. (Like, the dialogue was terrible, but WHO CARES?)

Charlize Theron for ALL the action movies. And Tom Hardy can be her side kick any time.

I REAALLY want to see this, but I have to know - how many of the ladies don't make it? I have to go into these things prepared these days. (You can definitely PM if you'd rather.):D

Of the main 5 women, one dies.

Of the 8 (ish, they move very quickly) back-up women, 4 or 5 die. They all get Action Movie Deaths, so some of them are kind of gross.

So: 6 of 13 ladies.

Uncountable dudes.

That's...remarkably better than I expected. Thank you!

People keep saying it's the greatest action movie ever made, and I think I agree with them, and it's also socially really, really close to being perfect (there's a decided lack of POCs, though the two that are in both get to do Really Excellent Things). I legit thought people were exaggerating. They are not. There's a bit in the middle where you're like "OH NOES HERE WE GO!" and then...it goes in a totally different direction.

I am going to write so many essays about this. And how FUCKING PERFECT it was.

What exactly are you referencing?

The bit where Toast gets taken back. And then Furiosa gets stabbed.

Or even, backtracking, when they cut the baby out of Angharad. Like, it was AWFUL, but it was also...not gratuitous?

Oh, totally. In a similar vein, I am okay with Angharad and some of the vulvalini dying, partially because of the TWO good guy characters, only one of them lives. So doesn't feel at all like 'oh, let's kill the lady, who cares about her?' but like 'WE REALLY MEAN ANYONE COULD DIE, THIS IS A SERIOUS A FUCK DANGEROUS SITUATION.'

And Toast gets captured... and then she's holding back Immortan Joe so Furiosa can kill him and spitting on his corpse. Like, I fucking love this movie.

when they cut the baby out of Angharad. Like, it was AWFUL, but it was also...not gratuitous?

Also one of the few times the camera IMPLIED violence but didn't show it.

I like her a lot as well, but I think this is the first time I've seen her do straight up action, and it was GLORIOUS.
