Hobbit Tuesday

It's Hobbit Tuesday! The day when I go and see THE HOBBIT.
I went back to my Landmark Cinema (formerly Empire Cinema), to the noon showing, and it was DELIGHTFUL. There were only about 20 people, and it was much quieter. Because we didn't get a midnight screening for the opening, it was a weird crowd. This crowd was much better.
Also, I think, I was much better. I was so caught up in my own feelings and expectations the first time, analyzing things as they happened instead of just watching the movie. It's a part of my brain I can't turn off as readily as I used to be able to, and usually it's not a bad thing (it does wonders for my recall, for example), but it does make FEELING hard the first time I watch something.
Also, god, the HFR. It was beautiful.
Anyway, first things first: I look forward to watching this on DVD so I can mute the Jerkface Dude Whose Name I Refuse to Learn. I wish he'd disappeared about an hour before he actually did (or died. dying in a fire is always an option), and his actual exit makes me very uncomfortable.
ASIDE FROM THAT, THOUGH.
I have so many feelings. I was worried the first time because I thought I DIDN'T. Except it turned out that I was in shock. This time, I was able to really appreciate the full depth of everyone's faces and lines and death scenes. You can see, for example, in Fili's face that he knows they are in trouble...but he's protecting Kili, so he keeps going. OH GOD, I WILL NEVER BE OVER WHAT HAPPENED TO FILI.
And Tauriel, my heart, she is so great. SO. GREAT.
I want to talk a bit about the weird dynamic (I don't think you can call it a "relationship") between Thorin and Legolas. We're really watching Legolas's hero journey here, which is neat: he has NO LOGICAL REASON to protect Thorin the way he does, but he stands on that tower and holds back a FREAKING ARMY to buy Thorin time, and then throws Orcrist back to him (which, I know we make fun of Orlando Bloom a lot, but his face in that scene was perfect. HE HAS SUCH GOOD FACE). They only talk in the capture scene back in the DESOLATION, but their storylines are so well book-ended by the other. I LOVE IT.
I also love Ken Stott's face. UGH, when Bilbo finds him, to talk about the Arkenstone? OR WHEN HE PICKS UP HIS ARMOUR AGAIN? MY HEART I CAN'T.
While I'm having dwarf feelings, I love the way they shot Gloin, Bomber and Bifur's reactions to Laketown, and then the hugging (and Bofur coming into the mountain and SHOUTING FOR HIS FAMILY), and then at the end when the brother/cousin teams are all there to mourn. IT IS TOO MUCH.
I love the scene between Thranduil, Bard and Gandalf. THE SHADE, it makes me laugh. It is brilliantly played by all three of them. And then when Bilbo shows up for the Thief in the Night bit, it just gets even better. Martin Freeman's "Yes" to Thranduil's accusation is just perfect for how Freeman played Bilbo.
The Arkenstone Scene at the Front Gate is chilling. Just chilling. Considering it was probably a bunch of guys yelling at a green screen, the acting is top notch. Dean O'Gorman doesn't even get a LINE and he's still perfect (and Bofur!).
There were a lot of scenes between Richard Armitage and Martin Freeman that were great on the Imax, but STUNNING in HFR. The Acorn scene, the Mithril scene, the Gate scene...and then the death scene.
Also, I really enjoyed the final scene with Bilbo and Gandalf. I think I was still in high dudgeon the first time I saw it, and calming down really makes it play better. (Well, "calming down". I was no longer screaming internally, but I was crying this time!)
And backing all the way up to the front of the movie: the Dol Guldur sequence is NEVER GOING TO BE LESS THAN AWESOME. I love everything Galadriel does (even the awkward carry!), and Saruman is perfect, and I GOT A GOOD LOOK AT ELROND'S BOOTS THIS TIME, AND, MY GOD.
*ahem*
And that was take two! I look forward to several other viewings when I go to visit Faith, as well as in the New Year.
If anyone has any fic recs, I'd love to see them.

Yes, this, all of this, also when he says "do you doubt the loyalty of anyone here?" and "you tell them yourself" at the end.
All the scenes between Bilbo and Thorin are mind-blowing in their acting. I can't even, so good, I'm so thankful towards both actors I might cry.
I've seen, but haven't read, fics where Bilbo plants in the acorn, but I can't read those yet. I need fix-its for now.
ALL. THE. FEELS.
