Clone Wars: "Season One"

Okay, so after
shadadukal gave me the "story order" of episodes, I switched over. Season one is still mostly intact, but you start off with 216, 116, 301 and 303 because MAGIC, or something, I guess. ANYWAY: story in order. Makes much more sense.
(I did skip the movie because I don't have it.)
ANYWAY, I find it very entertaining. Obviously they are extremely short on female characters (on the bright side, approximately 80% of the characters are Maori!), but the ones they have are well written (that first episode with Padmé notwithstanding). Ahsoka is delightful, and I was really pleased with her development over the course of the season (she's a commander now, and the clones call her "sir", and I adore it).
I also find it very interesting to watch Jedi after Jedi hammer home that the clones are people. The Republic (so far as it knows, anyway) kind of stumbled into this army, but they are doing their best to treat it well. The droids get sacrificed all the time (it's played for laughs a lot, but I think it's a well-made point), but every time a clone bites it, there are consequences, and I like that.
(OH GOD, this means it's just as much a tragedy for the clones as it is for everyone else once Order 66 rolls around. They were PEOPLE who made CHOICES and Palpatine TOOK THAT AWAY.)
Obi-wan is the best. Anakin is not as frustrating as I was expecting him to be. Padmé is doing a really good job at keeping her head together. It amuses me EXTREMELY that she and 3PO are basically the only ones who are any good at keeping the marriage a secret (Anakin is, of course, THE WORST). There was a great bit when Jar Jar found a Jedi cloak on Padmé's ship, and was all "How did this get here?" and 3PO told the only good lie of his life. It was excellent.
I'm also quite impressed with the animation. Star Wars has always been good at remembering that there is no up in space, and seeing the battles play out in animation has been AMAZING. The ground battles are equally good, I think because they can really highlight how the Jedi fight (not to mention why they are so freaking good). The way the characters run is a little weird, but I can deal with it.
There are also about 10,000 details I really like, ranging from Bail telling Obi-wan that he's his only hope, to the paint on the clone's helmets, to how they get their names, to the part where Cody gave Obi-wan his lightsabre back and WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF?

Date: 2014-10-07 12:23 pm (UTC)And yes. It's pretty enough as it is, and I've seen bits and pieces on TV over the years. Hopefully I'll get the blu rays at some point!
