Sleepy Hollow: This Is War
Sep. 23rd, 2014 10:40 amWELCOME BACK, SHOW OF MY HEART.
LORDE, this was SO GOOD. I loved the writing details in season one so hard, and getting them all back in season two (so far), is just LOVELY.
To wit: the opening tease. They let the hallucination play for SIXTEEN MINUTES, and the only clues were Ichabod's two mini seizures, and War's line about believing lies. I mean, you KNEW it was a hallucination (not the least because Jenny's actress is in the main credits along with Katrina's, so they couldn't be dead), but you didn't know what exactly the hallucination was. Having both Abbie AND Crane share it was BRILLIANT.
And then Jenny did that thing I love where she used her brain and her ability to kick a man where it counts to GET HERSELF OUT OF A CHAIR SHE WAS TIED TO. Ichabod showed up with a distraction, yes, but since he can't drive properly (how did he get the ambulance through the door in park? WHO CARES?), Jenny had to do her own escape driving, and then was SMART enough to understand why she couldn't be part of the trip to fetch Abbie.
(I say "fetch" and not "rescue" because, well, I'm getting ahead of myself.)
Katrina! I'm really glad she is okay. More or less. And testing The Headless Horseman. Her first escape attempt was not great, but she used what she had on hand (and, very smartly, stabbed him IN THE HAND in the hope that the knife would attach him to the table. Body shots are not going to work, and I like that she didn't waste time trying one). I also think it's worth mentioning that Bram Bones might have given her that necklace in the first place, but Ichabod picked it out! GREAT CHOICE THERE, VILLAIN DUDE.
And then Abbie. Abbie. With her brain and her bravery. I love her so much. Using Andy, the whole thing. You might berate her for taking water from Not!Ichabod, but she was definitely at her lowest point in that moment, and I thought it was a reasonably slip up. In any case, she MORE than made up for it like two seconds later, when she caught Not!Ichabod in his OWN slip up, and then CUT OFF HIS HEAD WITHOUT EVEN FLINCHING.
(Aside: NICE ONE, writers. I'm taking lieutenant/lieutenant as a personal "thank you" for watching the show, and for loving it.) ;)
So much hugging, you guys. So much hugging.
I hope John Noble dies soon.
FRIENDSHIP and SMART CHOICES and SELF RESCUING EVERYONES and I AM SO HAPPY.
(Though I do have a couple of questions about Franklin (and therefore Ichabod's timeline), but Mison got a lovely wig and it's been a while since I've seen Danny Concannon on television, so we'll take the win.)

Date: 2014-09-23 10:33 pm (UTC)I miss John Noble, so I'm content to have him be a part of this. He is such a nice man who does creepy so well as an actor! In that regard, he reminds me very much of Vincent Price. Iconic characters, unmistakable voice. A class act.
What a ride! I want more, PLEASE.

Date: 2014-09-24 02:01 am (UTC)I know I am a statistical outlier, but I'm not a John Noble fan. I know he is incredibly gifted, but having seen him play the same character three times...I'm kind of over it.

Date: 2014-09-24 01:57 am (UTC)Is that an actor thing or a character thing? Because I am so loving having him (the actor) on the show.
Actually, I kind of like the character too. Though I'm hoping for a bit of a redemption storyline because he KNOWS why his parents weren't there for him and should have a little more sympathy, and also because ALL THE ANGSTY ICHABOD FEELS.
So much hugging, you guys. So much hugging.
*happy sigh*
I want to be Abbie when I grow up.

Date: 2014-09-24 01:59 am (UTC)He's very good, I can acknowledge that. I just find him tiresome for some reason.
Also, upon re-reading it totally sounds like I wish John Noble THE PERSON would die, which is not at all the case! I just want him off my television.

Date: 2014-09-24 02:18 am (UTC)Probably reading all of your Haven and Sleepy Hollow posts back to back helped with the naming thing. ;)

Date: 2014-10-05 02:14 pm (UTC)I finally watched this, but I seemed to have missed the last episode of season 1 or something. So I was super confused about the beginning. I assumed Jenny and Katrina were actually dead. :(
The last thing I clearly remember is everyone going into some secret tunnel in Washington's grave.
I had no idea Walter was Ichabod's son. Or that Katrina was out.
WHAT DID I MISS?
I need to find out before I watch the second episode.

Date: 2014-10-06 02:12 am (UTC)I seemed to have watched exactly half of the finale. O.o
I'm all caught up now. :)
