(More later, obviously)

I'm a bit speechless? In both the good AND the bad way? Like, all those things I said yesterday about THE TWO TOWERS, and then that really happened!!! But it was pretty and I liked it and OMG, TAURIEL I LOVE YOU.

Wait. Saving that. Here's a list.

1. DIS IS ALIVE IN CANON! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
2. The barrel scene was awesome and funny and THEY EXPLAINED WHY BILBO DIDN'T GET ONE.
3. Lord above, I love watching Orlando Bloom do his fight scenes, and Evangeline Lily was just as awesome.
4. Thranduil and Smaug both talked to Thorin the same way.
5. ELDERLY WIZARD BUDDY COP MOVIE!
6. Bard's daughters!
7. BARD!
8. DEFENSIVE STATUE MAKING.
9. No, seriously. THAT WAS THE WHOLE PLAN. "Guys, we need to take out a dragon! Let's smelt an enormous golden statue!"
10. THE SCENE IN BREE (EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!)
11. The locket scene (oh god, the whole theatre lost its shit, and it was AWESOME)
12. Um.
13. I'm super tired, and I have to go to work and then the hospital.
14. It's possibly I'm already writing fanfic.
15. And by "it's possible", I mean "I have totally done a thing"
16. Bilbo definitely has the Arkenstone.

OKAY! More to follow. Peace out.

I'm curious to find out what 'the locket scene' means! I probably won't be seeing the film for a few more weeks.

Glad you had a good time!

As quick beam said from torn- this movie will alienate all book fans and Tolkien purists

I have basically decided that as a Peter Jackson movie, it's great, but as a Tolkien movie it is firmly in fifth place. Or maybe that it's like the statue: there was a huge plan that was really only clear to a couple of people and had a lot of moving parts and was very shiny, but ultimately resulted in generalized failure, and a vague desire to go burn down a town just because Bilbo asked you not to.

So the movie stops a bit short of the Battle of Five Armies? For the sake of my feels, this is probably good.

It stops WELL before The Five Armies. It's hard to give you a chapter, because it's such a mess after "A Warm Welcome", but the cut off point is more or less "Not At Home".

I liked it, I definitely enjoyed it as a film, but it's pretty much Heart of Gold tea. As in almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the book. (Fortunately, I had TTT to prepare me for middle movie syndrome. And knowing that a large portion would be based on the appendices allowed me to take things with a grain of salt. Or several.)

Also, that last point--definitely yes!
