SHIELD: Pilot

Here are the thoughts I had before I watched the pilot.

So...yeah. That happened. And it was clever, and I certainly giggled. But it really felt like something was missing. Like. I'm not sure who I was supposed to like? And maybe that was even the point, but that is also totally not why I watch Superhero stuff, so we'll see if it takes.

I did really like the following things:

1. Bear McCreary. Check out his blog, because the way he writes about his music is as cool as the music he writes.

2. Fitz Simmons. OMG, THEY ARE EXCELLENT. I love that they basically share a brain and work in concert and could probably pilot a Jaeger and so on.

3. Maria Hill. Oh, what I would not give for HIMYM to go to its peace, and for Cobie Smulders to end up here permanently.

4. "Tahiti". Because now I'm curious. (Though I am still bitter.)

5. Ming Na. SURPRISE! (you shouldn't be surprised.)

Things I Was Not Clear With:

1. DudeBro. UGH.

2. Basically the entire plot.

3. The part where the car had a name.

4. The part where the car could FLY (even though I know it's a Stark thing, but seriously.)

5. The part where what was wrong with Gunn was a blender of everything that's ever gone wrong in the Marvel movie!verse (seriously: Simmons actually said the word "blender").

So yeah. I'll give it a couple of weeks. But it needs to stop being so squeaky and start meaning something, I think. Also, Coulson wore a grey suit, and I don't know what to do with that.

I'm pretty much in agreement with you. Although I'm more amused that like me, your instinct was and is to call him Gunn the entire episode. Seriously, I kept waiting for Fred or Wes to show up!

But, I'll keep watching, hoping the plots get better and the blandness of the team gels. If I recall, I felt the same about Buffy in its early episodes and that changed as I watched more.

I didn't go in expecting heavy duty plot or character development yet; mostly I was just looking for fun and it definitely delivered that for me.

And oh my Fitz Simmons were freaking adorable. Just too cute for words frankly.

TWoP thought FitzSimmons were married, and I just about died of glee, but then I read that they weren't. Still, pairing them up, even platonically, cuts through about 100% of the bullshit I usually have trouble with when it comes to the Boywonder Scientist.

I kinda love them as platonic life mates lol. Plus the fact that she was damn near translating or leading him through his head a good bit of the time made me happy. And "Bashful" as the name of one of his little drones!

Yes, like, they need each other to function, but in the GOOD way? Hopefully she's not pining over him or something frustrating like that.

I did laugh at the whole, "The corner was dark and I couldn't resist. I think a bulb's out." (paraphrased. but it was funny.)

I have zero knowledge of any kind of history of anyone, so I thought that perhaps that was why I wasn't quite following everything, but it sounds like it was not just me. I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't especially attention-grabbing. I'll try another ep or two and see how it goes.

(Still couldn't get Sleepy Hollow or Blacklist to load when I tried earlier. Frustrations!)

The dark corner line was classic Joss.

There were approximately 10,000 movie shout outs, so if you haven't seen the films, I could understand being confused. There were also a bunch of things they straight up didn't explain, which I just thought was annoying.

I met her as "Ming Na", but she's credited as Ming-Na Wen, so...who knows?

I was "Meh." Love Ming Na, because she's Ming Na, and more Coulson is good. Not wild about the other characters at this point, nobody has much personality. I liked the moment when dudebro got hit with the truth serum, because he actually seemed momentarily like a person, but that ended. Really not liking Skye. I hesitate to use the word "hate" after one episode but it's trending.

I think the Overhype To Death Machine of Marvel/Disney really did not help this show. And I've been actively avoiding information and previews for more than a month.

Skye just felt really...forced? to me? Maybe they'll settle down a bit. I think they were aiming for Faith and crashed somewhere near Darcy.

I avoided most of the pre-hype too.

ETA: This is conjecture. I have no spoiler knowledge I...don't think Coulson's alive. I think he's more like Carson Beckett reboot with all that "Tahiti thing". As much as I was mad he was dead and am upset about the reset (I had thought it was a prequel at first), I think there's more to it from that whole scene with the Pastor from Firefly and the girl from the Avengers movie.

It was...okay. There was so much set up with variations of cool camera angles.

I only watched it today. I watched NCIS live...and wondered why I still watch that show.

ETA 2: Now I want to go watch Black Widow kick ass in Avengers.

See, I like that. The fact that Coulson's presence is a murky and being kept from him is something I'm down with. Also, I like that Maria is Level 8 (or whatever comes after level 7).

Okay, to be fair, I have a named car (Appa), but it just seemed so....maybe if it hadn't been a corvette. ;)
