So You Think You Can Dance: Top 16
Jul. 14th, 2013 09:19 amThe group number was...weird? I LIKED IT.
1. Amy and Fik-Shun: Paso Doble (Jean-Marc Genereaux) - JEAN-MARC GENERAUX! I LOVE HIM SO MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH. BRING ON THE CRAZY MUSIC AND COSTUME CHOICES! Seriously, though, that was MUCH BETTER than I was expecting from Fik-Shun, and Amy was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, OMG. Not really much technical stuff to go on, but they had the attitude, and sometimes with a Paso that's all you can really hope for.
2. Jasmine H. and Aaron: Broadway (Spencer Liff) - How happy am I every time there's a non-Tyce broadway? I AM PRETTY HAPPY. Tyce always seems to restage things. Spencer rechoreographs them. I like that. I AM VERY OFF-TOPIC, apparently. The actual dance was very good. They seem much more together this week, and Aaron looks a lot more comfortable. Their partnering is better, for sure.
3. Makenzie and Paul: Contemporary (Lindsay Nelko) - That was REALLY BEAUTIFUL. I even liked the wind machine. They seemed to click with each other, and with the piece, and it was just really good to watch, and really well done.
4. Jasmine M. and Alan: Jazz (Sean Cheesman) - If you had told me this dance was a Wade Robson number, I'd've believed you. I liked it a lot, because JASMINE IS AMAZING and also, it was something wacky and fun.
5. Jenna and Tucker: Hip-Hop - Apparently it's the night for things that are weird and also really kind of awesome? I mean, that was the oddest hip hop I've ever seen, but they absolutely nailed it, and it was incredibly entertaining. It's like all the partnerships have finally WORKED this week. I am excited.
6. Malece and Marko: Contemporary (Sonya Tayeh) - I really love Sonya's "softer" routines. AND MARKO! But I really liked Malece in this dance, finally, she seemed less...spritely? I don't know. She was easier to watch, anyway, and even though she was dancing with a "fill in" partner, she finally got a PARTNER, which I always like. And I didn't spend the whole time thinking "man, I wish Melanie was here", so that's probably a good thing.
7. Hayley and Curtis: Samba (Jean-Marc Genereaux) - Oooooh, Mary ate them ALIVE, didn't she? Don't answer that. His feet were weird, but I really think Hayley sold at least her part of it, if not also his. Also, this dance was FUN, and there hasn't been a lot of FUN tonight.
8. Alexis and Nico: Jazz (Spencer Liff) - He was really good at being juuuuuuust behind her when she was pulling the strings! That was really neat. I'm not sure these two can hold on much longer, though. They are fantastic, but others are more so.
9. Mariah and BluPrint: Hip-Hop (Luther Brown) - REALLY? REALLY? I thought Mariah danced circles around BluPrint. And that never bodes well when you're in your own style.
I am against these results. I mean, I'm fine with Jade, but ON WHAT PLANET does Jasmine have a confidence problem and IN WHICH GALAXY is that worse than repeatedly getting the same notes? Alexis is good, but SERIOUSLY?
