So once upon a time, I randomly picked GLOW up off the shelf and read it, even though it was an uphill battle (not because it was BAD. But because it was HARD. In the GOOD way.), and I loved it.
And then SPARK came out. And, holy crap.
I wanted to punch Kieran Alden SO MUCH. Every time he had a POV and was all "EVERYONE IS EVIL AND I AM RIGHT!" I just...wanted to SCREAM. Particularly when he blamed Waverly for what happened to Phillip. I just...PUNCHED IN HIS FACE.
And then, of course, I kind of forgave him and remembered that he is kind of necessary.
And Waverly! Oh, my bloodthirsty girl! I loved how she reacted to Kieran and Seth when they got possessive, and I LOVED that she was so insistent on making everything "official". She hasn't hit her break point yet, and I AM AFEART.
And somehow Seth has become the only reasonable person in the whole story and I AM SO...CONFUSED (not really. Mostly I'm impressed. And jealous. Well done, Amy Kathleen Ryan!).
Also, Sarah and Arthur should clearly take over the world. Such as it is. Even though it will probably end in tears because EVERYTHING ENDS IN TEARS. *rends garments*
UGH, I don't even know.
I'm so, so glad that Kieran and Anne are getting scenes together. I think that will be the wake-up call he needs. Or something? God, I have no idea how this series is going to end. It's amazing.
Okay: bringing it down. Again, I really enjoyed Amy Kathleen Ryan's take on religion, good, evil, etc. I also loved that she was upfront about it. This book is not particularly subtle, which is one of its strengths: Ryan calls it like it is, and I like that A LOT. This was a tremendously solid "second" book, which is hard sometimes, and the plot was amazing. I didn't really breathe for the whole second half. :)
Needless to say, I can't wait for book III.
9/10 for being a tremendously awesome second book, for tackling religion and tolerance, for being upfront and blatant, and for Waverly. Because Waverly is awesome.
