And thus we come to the conclusion of the Kane Chronicles and, lo, I did laugh until my sides ached.
There were way too many things that made me laugh really hard for me to quote them at you. Rick Riordan certainly isn't losing his touch in that department!
I really, really love Sadie Kane. I love how determined she was, how her powers and personality have developed since the first book, and how much her relationships with Carter, Zia, Walt and Anubis grew and changed. SHE IS SO AWESOME. I love how being British is so much of her character, but how her identity is just "fish out of water British person". AND HOW MUCH SHE USES HER BRAIN. It's fun to read.
It was also really great to see Carter grow a spine. I mean, he's always been good at reacting, but seeing him take action on is own accord was AWESOME.
Amos is the best, ever.
Best part of the book was every scene involving the Super Old Gods, yes/yes?
The Walt-Anubis thing was visible from ORBIT (and visible LAST BOOK, at that), but it's understandable, I think, that Sadie missed it. She does talk a lot, after all, and she usually has good reason to. It's not like she's just running her mouth. I liked that her explanation made sense. ALSO, IT RESOLVED THE LOVE TRIANGLE. I love it. I love it SO MUCH.
I want a Shelby. I mean, I don't REALLY, but I love the idea of five-year-old who occasionally draws things that become real and is bloodthirsty to boot.
I liked how the story finished while being open for more. And open for CROSSOVERS at that! I know Riordan has his Norse series starting soon, but the ending gave me the distinct impression that we have not seen the last of Sadie (and Carter) Kane. I'm excited to see what comes next.
10/10 for being a hilarious, well-plotted and brilliantly written conclusion (with just enough open doors and hints about other stories to make me hopeful, not to mention a creative, though somewhat excessively telegraphed, solution to the love triangle).
