Book #28: Grave Mercy, Robin LaFevers
Apr. 19th, 2012 09:56 pmI'll give you three guesses why I read this one!

The first two guesses don't count.
This book has absolutely everything I require from life: assassins, pretty dresses, poison, random violence, political intrigue, handmaidens, a complicated and well-rounded relationship with God, and kissing (also: non-romantic co-sleeping, vaguely romantic co-sleeping, and completely romantic, uh, not-sleeping. And Better Living Through Medieval Medicine).
Basically this book is perfect.
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. I mean, Ismae struggles with her faith and with her gifts and with the fact that she is the MOST SHELTERED ASSASSIN OF ALL TIME. She has two parts I particularly adored, the first when she realizes that she doesn't know what to do with people who are nice to her, and the second when she tells the abbess that she has no problem serving God, it's the convent she has issues with. (There's another moment that's EVEN BETTER, but I'm not spoiling it for you.)
I also really loved Gavriel and Anne, and the amount of TALKING people did. And all the courtliness, particularly the Beast of Warnoch and de Lornay.
Apparently there are going to be others. I am excited.
9/10 for being AWESOME, for starting with a map and a list of characters, and for all the parts with a crossbow.
