I feel I should apologize to this book, which I liked even more than I liked the first one, because I have a copy of Y.S. Lee's "The Traitor in the Tunnel" sitting next to me RIGHT NOW and I have been waiting to read it FOR A WHILE NOW, and even though I am making myself write this review first...I AM REALLY DISTRACTED.

That said. I really did adore this book to pieces. Everything that was awesome about book one became MORE AWESOME in book two. I also won two bets with myself (the first being that Sophie was betrothed to Cal, and the second being that Sophie's mother was somehow connected to the anti-Prodigium groups).

Sophie, OH, SOPHIE, I love her. I love her complicated relationships with EVERYONE, EVER. I love the way she talks. I love the way she makes decisions. I love how REALISTIC she is. UGH, I JUST LOVE HER.

Getting to spend more time with Cal was excellent. TEAM CAL! By which I mean "CAL! Run away and live happily ever after!" OR SOMETHING. Heck with Archer. (Who was, I'm forced to admit, well written as well, but SO HELP ME, someday the heroine is going to be SMART and I am going to be SO HAPPY*)

JENNA! OH, JENNA, I AM SO AFEART FOR YOU! I think my favourite scene in the WHOLE BOOK was when Jenna and Sophie had to fight towards the end, and it was the REALEST AND MOST SADDEST teenage girl fight you can POSSIBLY IMAGINE, and then they just went straight to hugging, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MORONS. *draws hearts and flowers*

I liked the shift in the Council, not entirely unexpected but well executed, and I loved the further development of the magical world. I look forward to Aislinn Brannick SO VERY MUCH IT IS KIND OF RIDICULOUS.

I am totally failing at reviewing this book. It was awesome, you should read it. 9/10.

*Oh no, wait. That's why I love Alanna of Pirate's Swoop.
