I have a new blog up for Waiting on Wednesday!

I've been on a Victorian kick for about 12 months now (gee...I wonder why that could be?), and I have to say that Y.S. Lee's Agency series is one of the BEST examples of Victorian life I've ever read. Plus: girlspies! Kissing! Lack of racefail!

I'm very excited for the next mystery Mary Lang tries to solve (and not the least because I think this one involves Queen Victoria herself!): The Traitor in the Tunnel.

I just love Victorian novels! What else have you read recently? (And does a modern author really count?)

Elizabeth Gaskell is my favorite Victorian author. Her characterizations are so rich and perceptive, in a way that a lot of Victorian novelists didn't seem to get into. They aren't about action as much as peoples' reactions to action. They're wonderful.

Oh, I meant novels about the Victorian period. Generally speaking, I don't read anything written before 1970, on the grounds that it BORES ME TO DEATH. Plus, if I read an Actual Victorian Person's Book, it would gloss over all the racism and sexism that makes Y.S. Lee's books so interesting. Also, Steampunk hadn't really be invented yet. ;)

Ah, gotcha. ;) (I'm judging you, of course, but gently!)
