Following one of my Resolutions for ResolversAnonymous, I have made my first blog post.

It's probably old news to most of you, but if you've ever wanted to know when I fell in love with words (it involves being at school on a weekend and Kermit the Frog), this blog will tell you how it happened. ;)

Hail and Well Met

Um...comments on layout and readability are welcome. I am new at this, and Wordpress and I are only just getting to know each other.

They will take my two spaces after a period away from me over my dead body, I am just saying.

It is MAKING ME CRAZY. But apparently it is something I am Supposed to Do, and so my new goal in life is to become powerful enough that I can change the convention back.

I love one space after a full stop. I'd like the convention to be 'whatever flots your boat'. ;) What I don't know is what is expected with colons. Are we supposed to have a space both before and after? To further complicate matters, I think it's different in French and English (of course!). When it comes to colons, I like no space before and one after, except apparently for userpic keywords (go figure!).

No space before a colon. There's never a space before a punctuation mark, except a hyphen/n-dash when you're using it to break up a sentence - like this - instead of as a word, like co-operate.

Okay, thanks, then it's probably in French that there is a space before a colon.

I got in the habit of doing two spaces after years of doing one space, because Faith always did two spaces. But then I learned you're supposed to only do one space, so I switched back, and then Faith did one spaces for me during the last half of Boo 4. ;) I thought it would take a long time to make the switch, but it was almost instantaneous. (There's always search-and-replace, too; I always run search and replace twice at the end of a document to check for double spaces. I've found that when doing double spaces, there are often triple ones that sneak in.)

That's what I do. And Twitter is training me to limit spaces as well. ;)

Thank you. I tend to like the blacks, but I wasn't sure how it would work for others.

I love greys and blacks as well, so I might not be the best judge for a dark layout. ;)

I think it reads well. If you can, my suggestion would be to add a blog follow thing. A ton of wordpress accounts have them, so people can click "follow this blog" and their pictures will pop up in a box. Blogger has them too. If Wordpress blogs don't have these, and I want to follow them, there's no way to do so and then I never visit their blogs again.

Hmmm...you can follow me if you have wordpress. But I don't know if there's another way to set it up. I shall poke at it.

ETA: Okay, not as cool as the blogger one and I haven't found pictures yet, but how's this (http://emilykatejohnston.wordpress.com/)?

Oh, nevermind--I've discovered that Wordpress has a tiny follow button on the bottom of the screen (if you're not logged into Wordpress) where you can enter your email address. I've just never noticed it before.

Well, I'll leave the follow option up for a bit. I can always take it down again if I need to. ;)

ETA: Replied before I saw this. I like it a lot! Makes it where I don't have to search for it.

Mostly in this case I weary of the "I changed because of FAITH and then I had to CHANGE BACK!"

All right, all right.... sheesh. ;-)

(I fully support you in your life's ambition to turn the tables).

*DIES* It's not a BAD thing. I was so proud of myself for learning to do two spaces--because everyone usually did two! And many people still do. Everyone was taught to do two, except apparently me, so I was all "ack, but I only know how to do one!" And then I started formatting for publication and whatnot and people are like "one space!" and I was all O_O because I'd gone and learned the proper two! (You were always way better at the proper stuff and I...felt so out of the loop, LOL. I remember feeling the same way when writing Awakenings about the writing itself: you always seemed to have everything together and had it down and perfect on the first shot, and my scenes needed a gazillion tons of rewriting.) ;)

Wait - what is this about no longer putting two spaces after a period ending a sentence? Since when is this the way it's to be done? Who made this rule? *shock, outrage, more shock*

Hmph! I think I may be on the side with [livejournal.com profile] penknife on this one. I'm seldom a rebel, but this is one usage I may have to fight until my dying days. ;)

I have signed up to "follow" the blog with email notifications. Good luck with your blogging endeavors!

Something about it being for type-writers and then something else about single spaces being easier for dyslexia? I have no idea.
