I haven't figured out how to embed this yet, but the new Hobbit Vlog is up and, well, it's up.

A large part of my SHEER EXCITEMENT about this is that every time I watch a vlog, I am reminded that the movie is happening at all. I mean, I know it's happening, but seeing Martin Freeman in MULTIPLE COSTUMES (btw, I kind of want that dressing gown), means that it's not some kind of MASSIVE HOAX perpetrated by the entire country of New Zealand to get back at everyone else for making fun of them.

WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT THE MUSIC, I MAY DIE.

This vlog was mostly about the cameras, which I found incredibly reassuring. I'm not a huge fan of 3D, but if there is ANYONE IN THE WORLD I trust to do it properly, it's Peter Jackson. And watching them build this movie from the concept art up in 3D is just...SO FREAKING AWESOME. (And seriously, is there anyone alive (besides Richard Taylor), who is cuter than Andrew Lesnie? Also: WHERE IS RICHARD TAYLOR?)

The vlog is 10 minutes and change, and is almost entirely technical (people talking about the cameras THEY INVENTED and then the make-up/costuming techniques THEY INVENTED to match the filming), but in the background...OH GOD, THIS MOVIE IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING.

(The best part is when Elijah Wood is watching his shot, in full costume, and says "Hey! It's like you're in it!" except that no one yells "YOU ARE IN IT, ELIJAH!" Except me, obviously. But he probably didn't hear me.)

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS MOVIE!

Have the link again.

Wow, I totally yelled the same thing. Except not yelled, because I live with people.

I did, however, yell when it was Elrond on screen. In a very high pitched tone and slightly strangled.

Provided the first one comes out when LOTR used to, I will probably still be in England (I want to stay for December 21st and go to Stonehenge, because I am that sort of person). I think we need to make a point of being in the same country, though. Of course, maybe England doesn't get it at the same time? OH MY GOD WHAT WILL I DO??!?!!? ::has freak out:: ::watches vlog again::

We so, so need to be in the same country!

It says "Holiday 2012", so I'm going to guess December 19th.

That was my guess too. Which is funny, since, you know, THE DATE.

I guess you have to come over here and do your PhD next year....:D

That's the (tentative) plan!

;p And then we can go to Stonehenge for the solstice! [Can you tell I'm sort of mentally set on that one?]

I'm still wary about the 3D but this may have reassured me a little. I have SW in February to prove me that 3D can be good (though that is a conversion).

And I picked the word reassured before I read it in your entry too. ;)

ELIJAH WOOD! FRODO! The day they show Aragorn is when I die of fangirl joy.

ETA: my opinion on the release date. It's listed for 12 December in France so I'm thinking 13 December UK and 14 December US.

...why would Aragorn be in this movie?

(There is, at least, a line at the end of "The Hobbit" that allows for an EW cameo. Don't know why there'd be Aragorn though. Actually...DAMMIT, I don't have my RotK on me, but I bet you we can account for his whereabouts during this story, and I think he's with the Rohirrim.)

Yes, I am one of those scary people. ;)

Well, I could tell you but it could be a spoiler for the movie so IDK. Not that it's confirmed, just speculations on my part due to hearsay.

Also, England next year hopefully? That makes me a lot more eager to visit you (in large part because my German is extremely poor). Not that you're reason enough, just I'd rather visit you in a country where I'd have an easier time of hanging out.

ETA: release dates, aka I was right (in part).

In theory, Aragorn could be seen in the background at Rivendell...but he would be 10 years old. ;)

I thought he was around 20 then...

I think he's 87 in FotR, which happens when Frodo is 50, and Frodo was 33 when Bilbo was 111, and Bilbo was 50 in The Hobbit, which takes place 60 years before (plus 17 years to catch up with Frodo between A Long Expected Party and A Conspiracy Unmasked).

Or one of us could look it up.

I looked it up just now (ah, the things a fan does during breakfast) and you're right, he's ten. I definitely heard that Peter Jackson had been in contact with Viggo Mortensen though. Who knows for what? But maybe PJ changed his mind.
