Sanctuary: Uprising
Oct. 15th, 2011 11:49 amI really liked this one! I mean, Sanctuary often wraps up MAJOR things very quickly and this was no exception, but...it worked for me.
And here is why (in no particular order):
1. DECLAN!
2. Will being competent. (Seriously, I SQUEED when he said "Have fun storming the castle!" because, for me, that's pretty much perfect Will. I love the idea of him being the "home fires" guy, like Hammond or Weir, and I hope we get more of that. Plus, it's a GREAT LINE.)
3. Henry being abnormal and awesome.
4. ABBY BEING AWESOME AND PROFESSIONAL OMG IT'S LIKE SOMEONE ON THE WRITING STAFF LOVES ME!
5. KATE! OH GOD, I WILL MISS HER!
6. Magnus being adorable (and a big LOL to HIDING IN HER BEDROOM because OBVIOUSLY it's the LAST PLACE ANYONE WOULD LOOK).
7. The Big Guy being funny and kind and awesome.
8. Loose ends all tied up.
9. DID I MENTION THERE WAS DECLAN AND ABBY BEING PROFESSIONAL AND NOT LETTING WILL BE A DICK TO HER?
10. ADAM IS STILL DEAD!
I am handwaving the whole "Let's appoint the New Guy (ish) Acting Head" because Will was there, no one else could get there in time, and the other Heads were all busy with their own stuff. It makes sense in an emergency to promote the closest competent person, and since Will was being professional and awesome this week, it makes perfect sense to me. I like that he got to be Good At His Job.
Poor Dwight from Haven! After he was one Haven for so long, and I grew to like him, I was hoping he'd be more present on Sanctuary, but I guess I can't have everything.
So yeah, pat ending but great characterization and ADAM IS STILL DEAD. I'm sad to see Kate go, but at least she's going to be Awesome in Other Places and not getting killed, which was clearly an option. Here's to Will and Abby continuing to be functional, Henry continuing to be comfortable, The Big Guy continuing to be awesome, and here's to HELEN FRAKKING MAGNUS.
Also? Those shiny new establishing shots of the Sanctuary? *pets them*

Date: 2011-10-15 06:15 pm (UTC)Loved Henry playing to all his strengths! Sorry to see Kate go (and not just because it messes with the m-to-f ratio), but at least she's leaving on a high note, and will undoubtedly be back in the Hollow Earth stories.
Not sure 'bout Helen's arc -- that extra century could be fertile ground for a lot of great stuff, or an excuse to pile on the angst. Or both. Wait'n'see, I guess.

Date: 2011-10-15 08:03 pm (UTC)I would add that it was great to see Tom McBeath again! It's always good to see one of the old SG cast members do a guest spot.
BTW, did you know that Peter Wingfield re-entered medical school in August and that he is limiting his acting career until the end of his training to be a doctor? He is just SO awesome! He enjoys being on Sanctuary, so I'm sure we'll see him again.

Date: 2011-10-17 12:42 am (UTC)I am torn between wanting more about Helen's missing years, and wanting to pretend that my fanfic came true... *selfish fan is selfish*

Date: 2011-10-15 09:26 pm (UTC)And echoes nicely fandom's theory that Declan avoided James' room for a fair while. ~Somebody's~ been reading ~fic~ at ~Syfy~.
Not enough, no. That was the one thing that irked me in the least - you bring her in for her contacts then get pissy because she worked them?
You forgot something on #3: "Henry being abnormal and awesome and scruffily hot!"
As for Kate, it's not like they're boxing her. I don't know if there's storyline or if this is the actor's choice, but Kate's still around, and is off to have all the adventures and kick boys in the head.
The Rest:
I think Will got promoted because Helen had been specifically grooming him and everyone, especially the tricksy little James-trained bastard Declan, knew it. Plus, the fact that they didn't call him when they decided this kind of hinted at a slight game of "not it!" If he succeeded, he deserved it; if not, oh well.
Keep in mind, Edge does have a day job - it's not just his blooming scifi acting career that takes up his time.
