Fic Rec: Stranger Than Fiction
Oct. 3rd, 2011 08:14 amWay back before we all signed up for
het_bigbang, I got to read a scene that
lanna_kitty was just poking at. It was a Castle/Sanctuary crossover, something I had never even considered, but as soon as I read the Big Reveal, I was SO THRILLED TO DEATH that when I found out
lanna_kitty had signed up to write it for Big Bang, I pretty much flipped out.
A lot of crossovers tell you only enough about Universe B to get the reader to understand what's going on in Universe A.
lanna_kitty doesn't do that. Both Castle and Sanctuary are equal contributors to the action, and the point of commonality that gets the ball rolling is...not what you might expect. ;) I loved watching both stories mirror one another, and when they collided, it was great.
My favourite scene in the story is the one where Castle Figures It Out, which he does in true Castle style by writing out loud. Aside from that, though, there are many, many brilliant scenes, fabulous dialogue, and a couple character moments that STILL make me grin rather stupidly.
(I could quote whole passages at you, but that would ruin the surprise!)
Stranger Than Fiction is a laugh out loud good time, but more than that, it's a story that is true to both universes, and that is something you don't see every day.
(Oh, and don't forget to check out the art!)
