Let me be honest about the song. I freaking adore it. The first time I heard it, I put my book down and listened to it about 12 times on repeat. And I was reading "Poison Study" at the time, and we all remember how I felt about "Poison Study".

Thing is, though, while it is easily my second favourite Hans Zimmer song ever, it's not really a very good song for vidding. Or at least not for vidding Nikola. It is entirely the wrong shape for him. But I had a couple of ideas and I wanted to see what they looked like, and I figured if I threw enough of his face at you, no one would care (it worked for me, anyway!).

So we have a vid here that is not as "story" as Paint it Black, but also not really a character study either, except in the most vague sense of the idea. But I think that kind of works with the song as well, because musically, the song is entirely build up. After the climax, it just falls apart. Which is kind of what happens in the vid, really: I stop exactly half-way through the story.

At the beginning, I tried to create movement by having each "verse" of the vid focus on a different part of the song, but as I neared the middle of the second section, and Nikola just would not get off the strings, I realized that he had more than enough movement on his own to pull off what I was going for, so I sort of let him run away with it.

(I did end up with Nesting Boxes anyway, I think. You don't see his face, he's a normal guy, he comes back from the dead, he does lightning, he might be a supervillain, he's a normal guy (okay, maybe not). It works, I think. Also, he's pretty.)

I think I only have four cheats in this vid. And three talking head clips. That might be a new personal best. ;)

Oh, who am I kidding. I just wanted to play with timed lightning! (And I totally managed to hold myself to a single explosion, even though it looks like a ghost frame that slipped in by accident...)

I will admit to having spent most of the vidding process giggling like a lunatic on account of HOW AWESOME THE MOVEMENT IS. And you don't even want to know how many times I watched the "Before you thank me-"// "THANK YOU!"// "You're welcome!" scene...

ETA: Also! Surprising amount of hand!porn at the beginning (in "The Five"). I had to trim the clip to fit, but in the bit where he grabs her hand, he actually slides his own hand the entire way down her arm. I very nearly required smelling salts. ;)

No, well, that too, but after he injects her and she starts to seize, his hand goes right from her elbow down to her wrist and then she grabs him. It's only super noticeable frame by frame.

Thanks for the remarks about the editing. I wasn't as sure of this one as I was of "Paint it Black" (which was really obvious for editing, except for the part where one of the characters was invisible), so it's nice to hear that it works!

Once I'm back home for the summer, I'm doing a poll on what new show I should dive into. I had already previously decided that Sanctuary would be on of the choices. Honestly, I think you, Faith, and Laura are each going to vote for a different one, so polling might be kind of pointless. ;)

(Seriously, though, Sanctuary is a weird show. Like LotR, I would never force it on someone because it's so weirdly bizarre (and kind of inconsistent), that if you don't like it, there's nothing I can do about it.)
