1. I have a migraine and I am not tired enough to sleep.
2. There is a techno dance party going on above my head.
3. I WON AN SGFA! (not getting old yet)
4. I have been thinking about fic.

I have written long fic for CSI, Angel, Stargate, Stargate Atlantis, and Harry Potter (and by "long", I mean "the word count broke 5 digits", which is not EPIC, but will do for now).

Once upon a time, I lived and ate and breathed CSI. My floormates at university knew better than to try to take the TV from me on Thursday nights. Without my knowledge, they printed "CSI" on my floor hoodie because I didn't have another nickname.

My first long fic was called In A While (11,023), and it was TOTAL CSI bullshit. Identical twins, exotic animals, random dance sequences...you name it! Oh, and it's also Nick/Sara, because I was shamelessly trawling for fans outside of my GSR bubble. :)

Next came Good Night Moon (13,744), a story where a murdered based scenes on the book by Margaret Wise Brown. This was much more telling of the way I felt about the show. And so horrible I don't even like to think about it. :)

Blue Suede Shoes was totally supposed to be a long fic, but I stopped writing CSI cold turkey and never got passed chapter one, even though I had all four chapters specced out. I had a map of Las Vegas and everything!

I didn't write anything big for Without A Trace, choosing instead to flirt with post-eps and song-inspired story. This is most [livejournal.com profile] eolivet's fault for writing that story about the table and the skirt bought not on sale at Bloomingdales. I have been trying to emulate that fic for years with little success.

Next came Angel, and the Full of Grace quartet (27,758). The first three installments were written in the fall of 2003, which meant that by the time part four rolled around in 2007, my writing had gotten a LOT better. Seriously, it's kind of funny.

I don't really have "long" fic for Lord of the Rings. The Hunt, a story about the wounding of Celebrian that mostly tortured [livejournal.com profile] eldanna, comes in at 5,595 words, but that's as high as they get.

I have quite a few "mid-length" SG-1 fics (Ninety-Nine Days is my favourite of these, though Second Front just won an SGFA and Looking Glass has two of my favourite lines ever), but my heart and soul for most of my time spent full bore in the SG-1 fnadom belonged to Harceisis (16,243) and Blood Night (24,189). Harceisis is the fic I wish I was a better writer when I wrote (ie. I still love the idea to pieces, but the writing is SO TERRIBLE it makes me want to DIE). I did SO MUCH RESEARCH for that fic, and I had SO MUCH FUN doing it. Blood Night...Blood Night is where I learned to describe things and how to get through briefing scenes involving 14 people, some of whom are sharing bodies. It was way more technical, way darker and way better conceived than almost anything else I've ever done.

One weekend in 2007, I sat down at my computer and wrote 15,000 words of fic. What emerged from that absolutely paradisaical time (seriously, I don't know what being high feels like, but if it feels like that, I get why people do it!)(drugs are bad, m'kay?) were two (finally!) completed fics: Beetle's Nothing (12,097) and Dreams of Convenience. I'd been working on both forever (well, I'd been working on Dreams for about six months and I'd had the notes for Beetle since 2004), and getting them done was JUST AWESOME. And they were both actually pretty good. :) Writing both fandoms at the same time was an experience, but I had so much fun mixing the archaeology of one with the action of the other that I didn't mind.

Great Friends has less than 5,000 words, but I am putting on the list because Teyla needs LOVE, people and so do I. (Migraine! Techno Dance Party!)

And that brings me up to date, mostly, except that the Remus/Tonks trilogy might break 25,000 words, and that makes me SO HAPPY and if I EVER finish Lying Down With Dogs, it should ring in around 12,000.

In case you haven't guessed, I love to talk about my fic (really, who doesn't?), so if you have any questions fire away!
