Book #20: Code Name Verity

ANYWAY
HAVE YOU READ THIS BOOK YET? It was my favourite book of 2012, and remains probably one of my favourite books OF ALL TIME. It's just shatteringly good, both from a craft perspective and a GIRLS USE THEIR BRAINS AND ARE FRIENDS perspective.
(I got to meet Elizabeth Wein last fall (at a party where I was hanging out with my agent's 9-year-old because grown-ups are scary and that child has no fear), and we mostly talked about psychology of birth order as seen through which of the ponies from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic you primarily identify with, and it was AMAZING.)
Anyway, IT'S JUST SO GOOD.
(Here is my "I Work At Chapters" pitch: This is the story of a Scottish spy and an English pilot, in the days before the Normandy invasion. They are flying recon over France and are shot. The spy bails, and is captured by the Gestapo. The pilot crashes, and is rescued by the Resistance. The first half of the story is the spy's confession, and the second half is the pilot trying to rescue the spy. Note how I never tell people it's 1. YA, and 2. about girls, because IT IS THE BEST BOOK EVER AND YOU SHOULD READ IT NO MATTER WHAT YOUR PREJUDICES ARE.)
