A lot of this show depends on the bad guys having no peripheral vision. I can get behind that (pun completely intended)!
I love how this show is formulaic (person in distress, Richard wants to save them, Khalan thinks it's a bad idea, Richard does something stupid, Zed saves their asses, everyone lives happily ever after...), but manages to not get boring or stupid. I imagine it's because there's a brilliantly choreographed fight scene in every episode. That slow motion is never getting old.
I also really love how they've chosen to tell the story. I mean, obviously they don't have a whole lot of leeway given that they're adapting a book (although, "Beastmaster" is about space and not many people know that!), but they've managed to be engaging and Following Type as they do it: lose family, run off with wizard, lose Bounty Hunters, go "Home", meet telepathic child who fills in the back story...there's a reason Harry Potter is successful! Mostly right now it's reminding me of Avatar, which I suppose just speaks well of Avatar's world-building and the abilities of whoever is adapting this.
Did I miss the part where they told me why The Seeker and The Confessor can't hook up? Because they are clearly going to. And I am sort of looking forward to it.
The actor who plays Zed was clearly born to play Aliens on Star Trek. Except he was born in Australia, so he made the rounds through Star Wars and Farscape instead. And LotR, of course, but that goes without saying.
*sits back and waits for the inevitable Khalan/Morgana fic*
(Seriously, people. If you liked Merlin, you should like this too.)
