Some backstory: There's a prompt at the Sanctuary Kink Meme that says "Crossover] Sanctuary/Torchwood, Declan/Jack Harkness (past Declan/Watson, Watson/Jack Harkness), Declan has never met another one of Watson's exs before "

I read it and thought "I need this in my life. I really hope someone writes it." And then I met st_aurafina, and noticed that she was looking for a beta, and so I volunteered, and IT WAS THAT FIC.

Needless to say, it was a couple readthroughs before I stopped hyperventilating and could pay attention to things like Oxford Commas.

ANYWAY! THIS FIC! This fic is really awesome. It's awesome because it captures Declan at one of the less pleasant times in his life, and doesn't pull any punches. It's awesome because Jack's voice is pitch perfect. It's awesome because there are a thousand little details about James that add so much to the atmosphere, it's like breathing it. It's awesome because they're all really pretty. And it's awesome because I can totally imagining it happening, and the writing is really good.

Also, there's a pterodactyl. :)

When I describe Torchwood to people, I usually say that it's was this crazy show where things happened like the time a robot woman fought a pterodactyl...until this episode. Where suddenly it became kind of awesome. And even though CoE kind of stepped all over my soul and made me very, very sad, I still kind of love it, and I adore this scene, even though there's so much feeling in it that I can barely watch.
