Book #82: We Found A Hat, by Jon Klassen
Nov. 1st, 2016 11:12 pmYes, this is a picture book, and yes I am counting it anyway.
So this is the third book in Klassen's award-winning Hat Trilogy. I have been about as excited for it as I was for the fifth Harry Potter book. The first two books were about animals that steal hats, lie about it, and then get murdered by the animal they stole the hat from. When I worked at the book cabal, I routinely described them to co-workers as "The best children's books about straight up animal murder ever written". What makes them amazing is both Klassen's sparse dialogue, and his ability to draw the animals side-eyeing one another.
I only knew one thing about WE FOUND A HAT going in: the story was about two turtles who find a hat.
I was SO NERVOUS. Would something else murder them? Would they murder each other? WOULD THEY RISE ABOVE THE ODDS AND LEARN TO SHARE?
I'm not going to tell you, obviously. You should read all three and find out for yourself.
