So the movie! Was a thing! And it was a really good thing! And because they want people to see it, they made it very easy to see. I rented it on iTunes, for example. For $8! What a wonderful future we live in.

It was amazingly meta. Like, I was expecting it to be meta, but, GOOD LORD. From the very first to the very last, it was a love letter to the fans, but at the same time, everything, every line, was in service to the story, and so it worked. At one point, Clemmons says "These ten years, without you, it's been...boring", and it was something his character would say! And that was just one of about 14 million examples I could give you.

I also really liked using Kerry Bishop and Susan Knight. Of all the girls at Neptune High, they had the friendship that was the most similar to Lilly and Veronica, and even though it happened pretty early in the story of season one, it really stuck with me (enough, for example, that I can't watch Parks and Rec!). I would have liked it slightly more if I hadn't figured out the entire thing during Veronica's conversation with Gia at Gia's after party, but the who is never important with these stories, with the way Veronica lives. Hell, sometimes it's not even the "how", except as the "how do we make them pay?". I like that. It was consistent.

(I was vaguely relieved that Dick was completely innocent, though. I can't believe I just said that out loud! His monologue when Logan's first lawyer came over though? He was almost human. Maybe he'll get his act together. Probably not. But maybe he'll just...stick close to the ocean and not fuck up too much.)

I'm desperately, desperately glad that they didn't make Piz into a bad guy of some kind. *sighs*

(Aside: I think my favourite "I guess they've kind of grown as people?" moment was when Logan, Dick, Weevil, Wallace, and Piz were all on the same side of the fight at the reunion party. That was interesting.)

I also desperately, desperately hope that the ending didn't screw up Weevil's marriage. He seemed legitimately happy!

Enrico Colantoni stole every scene he was in. I loved him so much when Veronica was on the phone in his office, and I loved the bit when Wallace and Mac came to get her for the party. And then, of course, his smile in the hospital. And he gets to be Sheriff again! For now. That never seems to stick.

Don Lam and Dan Lam? Good lord.

Deputy Sacks, though. I was not emotionally prepared for that. I mean, once it started, I was all "Oh, shit", and then as soon as he got the "maybe she's friends with" line, I started to steel myself for it, but YIKES.

LEO, OH, LEO. HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU. His scene was another example of a bit that could have been overplayed (the pizza, the first meeting, the FBI), but was instead perfect. The writing in this thing, my heart.

Kristen Bell was magnificent, no surprises, and I loved how she would have been an amazing lawyer, but chose Neptune instead. And yes, it's possible I have spectacular powers of denial, but I can't read that last scene and voice over as anything else: lunch with Wallace, a meeting with Weevil, having a set up with Mac, hacking into (her father) the Sheriff's computer, her feet on the desk and the motorcycles below her; it's Neptune in her blood, and Neptune she can't shake. Won't shake. And if she sleeps with the obligatory psychotic jackass when he's in town, I can get over that.

(Also? SHE SAVES HERSELF THIS TIME. I mean, it's possible she sacrifices a cat to do it, but I AM OKAY WITH THAT.)

I cried at the end, I'll admit it. It just went so well. I said before that it was more perfect than SERENITY, and I meant it. I mean, resurrected TV shows are about all they had in common, and VERONICA MARS had a much harder fight, but this movie did not look, sound, feel or seem like it was shot in some dude's back yard, and that's largely because it wasn't. The commitment was incredible, from everyone. I don't know if you've read much from the people who attended the premiere, but their testimonials are stunning. I said from start to finish this movie was great, but maybe we have to go back to that kickstarter (a year ago), and finish with opening night.

I loved that show, my friends, for many reasons. And the reasons I loved the movie are pretty much the same.
