It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.
I am so glad this show is back. For all it bugs me sometimes, I love it. I think it's doing good things. More importantly, it's doing MESSY things, and that's just COOL.
I love that Asami is taking over the family business! And that Mako got a job! And that Bolin is still Bolin (His "ooooooh! No wonder it's awkward!" moment was a thing. of. beauty.)! OMG VACATION TENZIN HOLD ME CLOSER TONY DANZA!
Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself.
I love that Korra is still chafing, still so sure of herself, and still so TERRIBLE at everything Tenzin wants her to be. Their relationship is one of my favourites on the whole show, and even though they are now SEPARATED from one another, I really do think they'll patch it up eventually, even without Jinora's spirit quest.
(OH GOD, JINORA'S SPIRIT QUEST!)
I'm kind of musing over how much of Korra's dad's original downfall was his brother's fault? Or maybe I'm just pushing too much. But there were several failures of communication here, and I put the blame entirely on Tenzin and Korra's dad. They know what she is like. They need to freaking talk to her.
(OH GOD, Tenzin's resignation scene was THE SADDEST. Except it wasn't even, because Tenzin's scenes got EVEN SADDER.)
So for those of us keeping score at home, this is the SECOND pair of northern Watertribe brothers who have it in for one another. I am very interested to see how this show (FOR KIDS) handles a religious war (fight, argument, whatever). Also, there is no way Katara will stand for this.
SPEAKING OF KATARA.
Actually, instead let us look at this .gif, which is worth 1,000,000 words:

Because they tried. Spirits know, they tried. But Tenzin was just so important, and Aang was just so inexplicably lonely, even WITH a wife and two kids already. And Bumi and Kya resented that, and Tenzin just wished he was goddamn normal, and you just KNOW Sokka always said the worst possible thing without meaning to, and Katara tried, and now she is making them all go on vacation.
Which. OH LORD. Because of course they'll worship Tenzin and Pema and the kids. And that'll make Bumi and Kya even MORE resentful, and Tenzin even more...sensitive. Airbaby soap opera, basically. AND THEN HUGGING. AS YOU DO. But I have a feeling they'll make us work for it.
I don't know how I feel about the twins. I think that's okay. I do wonder about their mother.
WE GET LIN AT SOME POINT, RIGHT?
(DON'T ANSWER THAT!)
I think it's off to a good start. Everyone is moving. Korra did something absolutely necessary, but she is STILL being manipulated, and we all know how that makes her feel. I wouldn't be surprised if this North and South thing got sorted out very quickly, and then the bulk of the season was spent road-tripping, but I have no idea. I don't think Jinora's vision is going to wait too long, though.
I am so excited.
