Dear F-list,

Thank you. Thank you for sitting on this. For being obtuse. For using cuts, even to conceal your emotions. For not breathing A WORD.

Thank you for making it easy to have not seen this movie.

Love,
me

There was never going to be a good way to do the Mandarin. We've all accepted that, right? Yes. It was...well, it was.

Moving on, my new goal in life is to live long enough that when an annoying hacker kid shows up (or any kid, really, because there was that cut scene with Captain America and the Shield in the Avengers), that it's a FUCKING GIRL. I am SO OVER THE KID BEING A BOY. That said, the actor did a really good job, and I didn't hate him. I just have a new life goal, which I think is healthy for everyone.

It amuses me beyond measure that Happy woke up to the Downton Abbey Christmas Special.

I thought Rhodey was perfect. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. He was in the movie the right amount, he was competent, and he excels at handling Tony. It was great.

Evil Dude was evil. Less Evil Dudette was...well, they almost passed the Bechdel test? It DID pass the Bechdel test? I can never tell with these things. But still.

1999 Tony was painful. SO. PAINFUL. AND YINSON, OMG. I have this thing where I sometimes yell in movie theatres, and when he came out, OMG, IT WAS AMAZING.

Pepper. PEPPER. PEPPER PEPPER PEPPER POTTS. THANK YOU, EVERYONE.

Tony Stark. Good Lord. He tries.

SCIENCE BROS! I love it.

I have to add some of you back to tumblr, now. Also, if you want to link to your reaction posts, that'd be great.

Also, no one told me that Luke Evans is playing Evil Richard Armitage in The Fast and the Furious VI. Now I might go see it. Did I miss anything in the first five?

KATE. KATE.

KATE.

Except for the Small Boy not being Small Girl I loved this movie. I loved the Mandarin. It was EXACTLY WHAT IT NEEDED TO BE RE: AMERICAN WAR ON TERROR AND ALL THE HYPOCRITICAL MEDIA-SHIT-STORM ILLUSIONS WE HAVE CREATED.

*ahem*

I am so excited by the meta of IM3 advertising in relation to nerd outrage about Ben Kingsley being cast in relation to the Great Reveal in relation to his accent in relation to Western Cultural Imperialism and Racism.

Also, PTSD and Pepper Pots.

ps. I considered it a pass of Bechdel. Also, that neither gave a shit that they'd both slept with Tony. He wasn't the most important thing between them.

I liked the pay-off of the Mandarin a lot. I thought it was timely and excellent and I love Ben Kingsley's voice, and I'm glad it was SUCH A SURPRISE.

I have conflicted feelings. But mostly good feelings. I DON'T KNOW.

Last scene after the credits! I loved that!

(((((Happy))))) Such a sweetie!

VP's motivation was excellent. They just had to show us the one scene and it didn't require any explanation at all. I like it when everything isn't based on mindless rage and there is a reason for taking the low road.

It wasn't Mandarin, and I wasn't completely sold on that version of things, but I enjoyed Ben Kingsley's performance very much. It was interesting seeing him play someone who wasn't completely in charge and just a follower.

Pepper was excellent in all ways.

The child was ok, but I could have done without him. His performance was very good but honestly, the scene where he won't shut up while Tony is on edge, if I'd been watching at home, I would have muted that bit.

Everyone should have clothing that comes when you send for it. Think of the benefits! Spill a drink on your shirt, send for a new one, get caught in the rain, send for dry clothing, last minute invitation out, send for your good stuff and no need to go home. : )

When I watch the movie again (soon!) I'll probably have a more nuanced reaction, but srsly my first time I couldn't get past the politics - in a good way. I can't remember the last time I felt that way at a big budget movie.

I mean... he destroyed his own weapons of mass destruction in a 4th of July fireworks salute! <3

It was heavy-handed... only NOT AT ALL heavy handed.

I think it was heavy handed because it happened, and not heavy handed because he did it for love. :)

I am kind of looking forward to going again, for that reason.

I liked Happy a lot in the first movie, not at ALL in the second movie, and then he was kind of better in this movie.

I also really appreciated how understated the VP reveal was. I mean, OBVIOUS. And it pisses me off that The Little Crippled Girl was the motivation for bad while The Little Hacker Boy was the motivation for good. But aside from that, it was well paced, at least.

The Mandarin was weird. I'm still sorting through my feelings.
