More Thoughts
May. 24th, 2011 10:27 amOkay, so the first, uh...let's go with "few"; the first few times I watched the John/James scenes from Normandy, I was struck by their similarity to those in Revelations.
I'm not denying that there is a lot of similarity there, blocking in particular, though James is about a million times more active in Normandy than he is in Rev. Still, what struck me on subsequent viewings is the similarity to the scenes with Ashley in "The Five".
I'm not entirely sure it's a coincidence, mostly because we got John's entire speech in the previouslies, which is what made me think of Ashley in the first place.
(OH, I JUST HAD A BRILLIANT IDEA AS TO WHY NIKOLA STAYED IN ENGLAND!)
Where was I?
Right: symmetry.
The words John says are very, very similar to what he'll say to Ashley in The Five. And John's general plan (such as it is...) is also similar: arrange for a kidnapping, tie said person up, threaten them into listening to you, drugs/torture at your discretion. I'm still not sure if it's on purpose or just wacky writing, but I'm choosing to go with the former, because John really does love Helen, and I sort of adore that.
Also, at one point during the episode, Helen said "This is impossible! They have tanks!" to which I replied "You know what would be handy right now? A GIANT FLYING BISON!", because Avatar is JUST THAT GOOD, and now I am imagining it, and it is AWESOME.
In conclusion, I am about to start a fan project and it is absolutely not the fan project I thought I would be starting today.
(Also, I have purchased "Blood Magic", "Throne of Fire" and "Voice of Dragons" (and coffee), so later there may be the calming influence of Rick Riordan.)
(Um...never mind.)
