Hey! I was saying them all right! Even Aodhan!

I had a lot of fun with this book, and am very much looking forward to the sequel. When I was little, I read a book called "The Perilous Gard", and if you modernize that novel and add a lot of music, you pretty much get this, which I really, really like. I mean, faery-myth is well enough, but sometimes it's nice to beat those suckers, you know?

I love it when music is the driving force the plot, and this book definitely had that going for it.

I am...intrigued by so much of what's left unsaid in this book. What the heck is up with Delia? What's the deal with the Music School? How does Sara continue on in her life, seeing what she's seen?

And I also have this weird feeling because a lot of the plot was really, really rushed. Like all of a sudden James is psychic? And out of the blue on pg 189, Deirdre is Catholic? And...Elanor is the Queen by popular vote because...she's pretty? I think it might have just felt fast because it was first person narration. In the book jacket, it says that Deirdre had been wishing the summer was more interesting, but then she never says as much in the book.

Deirdre herself was interesting to me, because she is actually perfect. And it drives her insane. Which is endearing, if unusual. I did wish her relationship with her parents and Delia had been more explained though, because I was really confused for parts of it. At the beginning, I thought her mother was going for "young and hip", but then later we're told it's more "disinterested and strange". Her father was a complete non-entity, and Delia was all over the map. And yes, first person limits that, because only Deirdre can know what's going on, but I still found it frustrating, because I felt like I was right on the edges of it.

Also, I could do with more James. And, just once, I would like it if someone fell for the "normal" guy.

I love the ending a lot (the VERY end, I mean, the last line), but I think I would have been SOLD on this book entirely if, at some point, Deirdre had said "You wanted saving, didn't you?" to Luke at the end. Because that is how I roll.

So...8 out of 10. I am assuming the sequel will clear up some of my questions, and I am glad that I can start reading it tonight!

(Man, waiting for "Shiver" to come out in soft cover is going to KILL me!)
