A "run don't walk" book rec
Jan. 31st, 2014 05:43 pmRosamund Hodge wrote a book that shouldn't work.
It should be a hot mess.
It has everything. All of the things. ALL OF THEM. It should not work.
And yet.
CRUEL BEAUTY is a "Beauty and Beast" retelling with a Greek myth twist. It is beautiful. It has a hard girl and a monster, a ghost and a terror, a sister and a promise. It is so, so, so good.
Here is the short story that made me fall in love with Rosamund's writing (and also, probably resulted in the least useful critique letter of ALL TIME because I couldn't for the life of me write coherent sentences about it). She has the best handle on Persephone, outside of Jo Graham, that I've seen in a while.
And the short story is just a taste. CRUEL BEAUTY is even better.
