Also, there is going to be a map. I AM SO EXCITED. And over Christmas, I saw more than a few kids eagerly looking it up in our system. I did my best not to rub it in, but I did mention that I'd read the ARC and loved it.

9/10 for action, heroism, politics, talking about feelings, making smart decisions and THAT THING WITH THE [SPOILER].

It's possible that I am DEAD OF CUTE. And also FEELINGS.

A Memory: In which Thorin babysits and Dwalin helps.

"Well, that one's certainly grown," he said, nodding at Fíli.

"I'm seven!" He said proudly.

"Fee, gimme duck," Kíli said, speaking quietly for once. Fíli graciously handed the toy over and took up a little boat instead. With the children distracted for a moment, Dwalin looked over at Thorin who now leaned over with his head again the rim of the tub, the very image of a man overwhelmed.

Dwalin burst out laughing.

"Shut up," growled Thorin.

Hold me.

*cue inarticulate flailing

*twirls*

(Aside, I want to hear ALL THE STORIES about filming this scene. The actors, the animators, the set designers, the costume peeps, the dudes in foley, the props department and ESPECIALLY THE PERSON WHO WAS ALL "Hey, what if Oin plays a teapot?")

(Also, I love that Nori is basically photobombing.)
