Delay Cake

Hello Flist!
This is the cake I made for my birthday party with the GODS. It was modeled on the Schliemann Trench, which Heinrich Schliemann dug at Troy. He was a man with a mission, never a good thing in an archaeologist, and he found exactly what he was looking for. Of course, now we know it was mostly bullshit, but what can you do?
Anyhoodle, here is the picture that I used to model for the cake:

Here is the base of the cake, before we added any of the mound. This cake was a lot of fun, because it was CHOCOLATE.

The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out...and beads are all over the place.

Here is a necklace made of gold beads and a gummi worm end and some coins. And more delicious worms, of course!

I was so excited when I was building the mound that I forgot to take a picture of it before I covered it with chocolate icing. Whoops!

For my birthday, Rachel gave me a bunch of different cake decorating tips. This is the grass/hair attachment. SO MUCH FUN.

Here we have one of the ruined houses. These are made from white chocolate covered cranberries. It's my best example of "Kate randomly walked around in Bulk Barn and was struck by Inspiration" so far. :) Note that I forgot to leave some icing aside when I was colouring the grass, so the mortar is also green.

I could not find chocolate covered pretzels, so there are no trees...but I think it works!

Stratification!
And fun was had by all!
