Ryke and I caught up on this in December. Oh my gosh, SO INTENSE and ADDICTIVE. The characterization is AMAZING. Now I'm going to have to watch this video to see what it's about.

Watching that vid makes me want to finish watching the second season!

There are a lot of female characters who drive the plot. There are also a lot of female characters who die horribly. But just as many male characters die horribly - the series is pretty even-handed with dispensing horrible death. However, it is One Of Those Things You Should Know before starting, in case you're one of those people who does not like TV shows with a lot of character death.

They're all awesome, that's who they are.

There are some skeevy bits of the book. (fantasy authors, who are creative and wonderful enough to have things like dragons, who seem to think they must carry over misogyny for 'realism' drive me crazy).

There are beautiful parts with amazing women who do fantastic things and die horribly, just like the men. There are characters you hate, love to hate, end up loving and those you're still mourning three books later.

This show does have some of the strongest female figures on television (then again, they're pretty strong in the books too - the women behind the thrones, as it were). I can't believe you're not watching it! The men are idiots and the women clean up the messes.

I did watch season one, and the first episode season two, and then I realized that I just didn't care about 90% of the characters. Also, it's much too long for me. Much, much too long. But I do appreciate the snippets I pick up hanging around fandom. :)

Not caring is good. When one cares about characters they tend to die.

The show, in season one anyway, was painfully, gratuitously heinous toward all the women. All the young ones had to be naked multiple times. There's excessive amounts of female nudity, in scenes where it was totally not even relevant, just because it's HBO and they could get away with it.

Not to mention all the rape.

I would caution anyone about watching this show.

That is pretty much exactly why I stopped watching it. I watched all of season one in a day or so, without really liking it, and then when I thought about it, I realized that I really didn't like it (though I do like some of the characters, in theory).

Oooh, I've read all the books except the last one, partly because I caught a bit of probably season 1 in a hotel room that had HBO.

Now I'm trying to guess who the characters are.
