Cake Pictures

The stage was set...

The pieces were in play...

At this stage, I was concerned that it wasn't going to look right AT ALL.

But I figured that if I added enough chocolate, no one would care.

This is what the hat part looked like before I built it and smothered it with icing.

At this stage, I began to think that I had really got it right.

If I've learned nothing else from baking, it's that almost any problem can be solved with lots and lots of chocolate icing.

The feather is a bit big, I think...but also it's chocolate, so I don't care!

*sings theme song*

The cake is devil's food (made with chocolate pudding instead of milk), iced with chocolate icing, and the ribbon is painted on with chocolate. The feather is sculpted and stuck on.

I am leaving this unlocked.

For the tall part, I actually used a round glass pyrex dish with slanted sides and then cut the edges off and stacked them on the main piece...doubling the height. It was touch and go for a bit, but the icing holds it all together, so it looks cool, and I get the perfect divet in the top of the hat to boot!

EDIT: So the cake itself is four pieces: the base, the bottom of the hat, and then the top of the hat is in two pieces...all of it stuck together with icing.

I am not sure that makes sense...
